I don’t think French people like it. I don’t know why Ridley Scott has to make up fiction about real people whom we have actual recorded history about.
Exactly. Napoleon's life was only about 200 years ago. That's very recent, at least by historical standards. Scott's movie lacked any authentic French culture, it was like a Yankee parody of Napoleon.
Just saw this in my feed . Very good piece . Yes I left the movie extremely disappointed at the gross historical inaccuracy and the omission of key information . Was shocking really .
When I first saw it, I enjoyed it. But as I reflected deeper (especially after seeing Markham's scathing review), it occurred to me just how awful and inaccurate Ridley Scott's Napoleon was. Phoenix's performance is laughable compared to that of Rod Steiger in Waterloo.
The more I listened to Markham, the more I realized just how negative Ridley Scott's movie depicts Napoleon. The real Napoleon was a culturally refined intellectual, not some brute who does doggy style with his wife (even the sex scenes were done badly, I think Markham is kinda right!).

Sadly, I agree with him on every item.
