Congrats on the book release, sir! That is fantastic news :D
I look forward to checking it out, and I hope others do as well. I could do to brush up on my Napoleonic history, and it doesn't look like Joaquin and Ridley are going to be helping me on that front.
Plus, I really want to bring back that "put your hand in your unbuttoned shirt" fashion pose that Naps was so good at it. It's like the OG, more sophisticated French version of when Al Bundy would rest his hand in his pants haha
Thanks, much appreciated! Yeah, I also heard that many historians (especially French ones) don't like the new Napoleon movie. I'll give my own opinion after I watch the movie soon.
But yeah, Napoleon's hand-in-coat posture is absolutely iconic! Almost as good as Al Bundy, hahaha!!
Thanks! Historians see Napoleon in different ways. My take is a very positive one: Napoleon was a French revolutionary hero, who spread Enlightenment ideals (liberty, equality, fraternity, republicanism) across the world. But Bonaparte was definitely a strong military conqueror, that's for sure.
Yeah, I just dislike the Enlightenment. I really don't like the people who ran the French Revolution, but Napoleon betrayed that revolution anyway by declaring himself Emperor and trying to take over the world. There is a short film called "The Hero" in which Beethoven feels enraged and betrayed by Napoleon's hubris. Serious apotheosis, not particularly unique from any other famous conqueror in that sense. But again, not saying you can't like him haha
That's a very legitimate perspective. Sometimes, historical figures can represent different things to different people. For me, Napoleon is more than just a politician or military general; he is a symbol of French culture and modernity (especially in the Middle East, through his Egypt campaign).
Congratulations, Ben!
Thank you so much, Judy!
Congrats, will have to look into this!
Thanks!
De rien mon ami
Merci mille fois! Je parle un peu de français aussi. Mais l'anglais, c'est ma langue naturelle.

Much as I can't say I'm a fan of Napoleon's worldview and hubris, there's nothing wrong with acknowledging military genius. Good luck with the book!

I can't really judge anyone for liking Napoleon when I find myself admiring Genghis Khan lol
